RANADE AJINKYA KISHOR （Year of Admission: 2018）
NITech Graduate School of Engineering, Doctor's Degree Program,
Physical Sciences and Engineering
I started my Doctoral studies at the prestigious Nagoya Institute of Technology in April 2018 under the guidance of Prof. Golap Kalita. It has been a come true for me as I always wanted to pursue my Ph.D. in Japan. Right from my Bachelors, I developed a keen interest in Nanotechnology, which motivated me to do research in the field of Nanotechnology. Being involved in the field of Nanotechnology, pursuing a Ph.D was a natural choice. I have always admired Japan for its technological and cultural values. It is one technologically advanced country which accepts and encourages foreign researchers. Coming to NITech was always on the plan because research facilities provided by NITech are state of an art and research conducted here is top class.
My research area includes synthesis of 2 Dimentional materials with the aim of application in optoelectronics. It is still a young field and with a plenty of room at the bottom. Our lab basically tries to integrate 2D materials with various semiconductors as the prospects seem promising. I am throughly enjoying being the Ph,D student as I get to learn new things and and share my knowlegde with other students.
One thing I love about being in Japan is I get to interact with a lot people from different backgrounds. I stay in NITech Cosmo Village which houses foreigners as well as Japanese and hence it is an absoulute fun ride. One major challenge I face as a Ph.D student is the Japanese language. Eventhough I am trying to master my Japanese skills sometimes it is difficult to communicate and read the official documents. But my japanese friends help me a lot in this area. I hope to get into academics after completing my Doctoral course as I am passionate about teaching and I believe sharing knowledge is the best kind of service one can do for the betterment of mankind.
One message that would like to give future docatoral students is that " pursuing Ph.D is not about a degree but it's the journey that matters as it teaches you life lessons and gives you a new perspective which shape you as a person".
