Prof. Brown is an expert in structural and functional studies of membrane proteins by spectroscopic techniques. In Academic Unit Cooperation Program, joint research on spectroscopic characterization of the photoreceptive membrane proteins , microbial rhodopsins, was conducted. The study obtained novel insights into the functional mechanism of ion-transport of a novel microbial rhodopsin, and the results were reported in Biochim. Biophys. Acta (Harris et al. 2015).
