Introduction
Katia Sycara is a Professor in the Robotics Institute, School of Computer Science and the Director of the Laboratory for Advanced Robotics and Semantic Web Technologies, at Carnegie Mellon University, USA. She earned her B.Sc. in applied mathematics from Brown Univ., M.Sc. in electrical engineering from Univ. of Wisconsin and PhD in computer science from Georgia Inst. of Tech. She holds a honorary doctorate from Univ. of the Aegean.
Dr. Sycara published more than 700 research papers in the field of multi-agent and multi-robot systems, human robot interaction, complex systems, negotiation, game theory, and data mining. Her research impact to these broad research societies can be seen from her multiple best paper awards. Her research dedication brought her countless awards from ACM/SIGART agents, Group decision and Negotiation section of theInstitute of Operation Research and the Management Sciences, and more. She also promotes her research, by being selected as a chair of Sixth Century in Computing at the Univ. of Aberdeen, UK in 2005-2015. Also, she has served as General and Program Chairs of multiple conferences, She is a founding member of the International Foundation of Agents and Multiagent Systems (IFAAMAS), and a founding member of the Semantic Web Science Association. She is a founding Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems” and is currently on the editorial board of 5 additional journals.
She is also fellow of IEEE and fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI).
Her research and opinions influence industry fields. She is on the scientific advisory board of several industries such as France Telecon and Siemens as well as multiple Industry Standards Committees. These contributions indicate that she strongly supports the growing research fields and human society.
